ABOUT THE FILM:

Praying for Armageddon is a political thriller that investigates the dangerous consequences of the fusion between Evangelical Christianity and American politics. Through years of reporting, this film not only reveals how structures of fundamentalism weaken the very fabric of American democracy, but also highlights the devastating impact religion wields on U.S. foreign policy. From a grassroots foundation and megachurch empires to the dark backroom maneuvering in Washington D.C., this film ventures inside a movement that ultimately aims to destroy our civilization. This deep dive into power and policy unveils how politicians driven by faith embrace Israel as the key to their prophetic vision for the end of days, at any cost, ultimately escalating the spirals of violence in the Middle East. As Intercept journalist Lee Fang says, “We cannot look away.”

“However, the core thesis is abundantly, horribly clear: there are a growing number of people in positions of major power in US politics and broader society who are actively working to bring about the end of the world as we know it. It does not feel fine.” - Jessica Kiang in Variety

Working with Opal Lee: Civil Rights Leader, Activist, Author, Educator, and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee

Earlier this year, Fold Studios was given the great pleasure of filming Opal Lee’s address as she accepted the Spirit Alive Award from Carnegie Hall’s Juneteenth Celebration. Since then, Opal Lee has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

It is a special moment when you are tasked to film and are able to sit with a civil rights leader.

We were honored to film Opal Lee as she accepted the Spirit Alive Award from the Juneteenth Celebration at Carnegie Hall. Opal is known as "The Grandmother of Juneteenth" and was instrumental in its recognition as a federal holiday after she walked from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. at 89 years old.

Today, at 95, she continues her "Walk for Freedom" each year with a 2.5 mile walk representing the 2.5 years it took for enslaved people in Texas to learn of their freedom after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Thank you to Ms. Lee for hosting us in your home and for sharing your experience with us.
